• What steps do I take to prepare for surgery?
Our office staff will verify your insurance coverage, make contact with your primary care physician and/or referring physician, arrange for additional procedures and appointments, and schedule your operation at the hospital or outpatient surgery center.
The patient will most likely need to be seen by their primary medical doctor for a pre-operative workup and clearance.
• Will I feel discomfort after surgery?
After surgery most patients experience a mild to moderate amount of discomfort in the first several days, depending on the surgery. This is usually alleviated with the prescribed medication. Follow the dose recommendation carefully and ask your pharmacist about any possible drug interactions. You may take Tylenol, Advil, etc. instead of the prescribed medication if the pain is not too severe.
• Can I resume a normal diet after surgery?
Most patients can resume a normal diet after surgery unless instructed otherwise.
• Can I resume my daily activities after surgery?
Activity restrictions are usually discussed at the time of discharge from the hospital. These most commonly involve avoiding heavy weight lifting and excercise for 4-6 weeks.
• Will my driving be impaired following surgery?
You are not allowed to drive for 4-6 weeks after any major abdominal operation, or as long as you are taking any prescription pain medication.
• Do I need to see a doctor following my surgery?
Your surgeon would like to see you within 1-2 weeks after surgery for a postoperative visit. Upon discharge, please Contact Us for an appointment.
